The Challenge

Every food truck has a menu. Not every food truck has a reason people drive across town for it. Eli MacLaren and Chef JaHann Lovecraft had the real thing — a menu built on braised bases and slaws designed to argue with them on purpose, and an origin story that started at a shared table, not a mission statement. What they didn't have yet was a brand strong enough to carry that story past opening week. A competitive review of the category made the risk clear: food truck brands either coast on founder charm until it runs out, or play it so safe they disappear into the parking lot. Slawterfest needed to be neither — irreverent enough to earn a second look, and built with enough substance to still be standing once the novelty wore off.

The Approach

The brand starts at the same table Eli built her community around, so instead of dressing that story up, the strategy put it front and center and built a personality sturdy enough to hold both sides of it at once: mischievous on the surface, genuinely intentional underneath.

That personality needed a face, so Slawterfest got a character instead of a typographic logo — the Monster, claws gripping the wordmark, equal parts welcoming and unhinged. The voice followed the same instinct: real tension instead of generic "playful brand" copy, built to hold up on its own without ever leaning on one founder's personality to carry it.

The Result

Slawterfest walked away with a complete brand system built to scale past day one: a five-piece logo suite led by the Monster, an accessibility-verified color and type system, a fully documented voice with real teeth, and a brand book that reads as confidently as the menu tastes. The work extended into a second, related identity for Love Cottage Industries, the parent company behind it — proof the system was built to grow, not just to launch.
